Are Chiropractors Right For You
When suffering from any sort of muscle or joint pain, it can be difficult to know who to see. Many patients often ask about the differences between chiropractic and physiotherapy.
Chiropractor or Physiotherapist?
There can be a lot of overlap in treatment options. Both chiropractors and physiotherapists aim to treat joints and musculoskeletal problems. They both decrease pain, correct movement, increase strength and help return you to full function. However, like many other disciplines, there is a wide spectrum of treatment styles in both chiropractic and physiotherapy.
It is important to not put the entire profession in a box after seeing one professional. Improving the overall state of the nervous system is the focus of chiropractic treatment. The reason? Your nervous system is the only system that allows your body to adapt to stress. A chiropractor will remove interference to the nervous system by performing adjustments. Affected spinal and extremity joints will be treated to restore proper movement, structure and health. A better functioning spine makes for a better functioning nervous system. This allows you to better adapt to your everyday stress without pain and feeling exhausted. A physiotherapist is less concerned about your nervous system and will more commonly use mobilization techniques instead of adjustments
What is Chiropractic manipulation or adjustment?
At Roach Chiropractic Centre, we use our hands to adjust the joints of your spine and limbs. Focusing on restricted movement. A chiropractor can use a grade 5 manipulation (a high velocity, low amplitude thrust) or adjustments. Physiotherapists are limited to grades 1-4 (low velocity, lesser amplitudes) mobilization. Grade 5 manipulation is that it often allows for instantaneous improvement in range of motion and pain relief! Adjusting a joint can help restore the normal range of motion and structure. It acts upon a pain receptor to help relieve pain (pain gate theory). Every year there is more research supporting the benefits of chiropractic adjustments.
A common misconception is that once you go to a chiropractor, you will need to continue going forever. This is not the case, especially here at Roach Chiropractic Centre. We provide personalized treatment plans to bring back proper structure to your spine and movement to your joints.
Chiropractic Treatment Options
Chiropractors treat acute and chronic low back and neck pain. They also treat shoulder tension, mid back pain, sciatica, numbness and tingling, tension headaches, migraines, sports injuries and extremity joint conditions. Your nervous system functions better and allows you to better adapt to everything you do on a regular basis.
Stiff back or joints that feel locked and sore or haven’t responded to other treatments, then a consultation with a chiropractor is recommended.
Both chiropractors and physiotherapists will also give exercises and advice to help better manage your condition
