You’re a believer! You integrated chiropractic care into your wellness plan and now see the benefits of a properly aligned and functioning body. But what about your child? What benefits might they see from receiving regular chiropractic care as part of an overall wellness strategy?
First, it’s important to note that chiropractic care is not a treatment for disease. It’s purpose is to reduce spinal nerve stress that interferes with the proper functioning of the nervous system, organs, immune system and healing potential of the human body (Pathways Magazine Issue #4, 1.12.04). When the human body is functioning as it should, it’s able to fight diseases or work through pain more effectively.
Knowing chiropractic’s purpose, one of the benefits a child could enjoy is an improved immune system. For some children this can mean quicker recovery time from head colds (or not catching as many), reduced symptoms related to seasonal allergies (such as sinusitis) and less reliance on medications for chronic conditions such as asthma. Another benefit a child can experience is better sleep–deeper, longer and more restful. When a child isn’t in pain or his breathing isn’t hindered by swollen sinuses, the quality of sleep is going to improve. And better sleep can mean an improved attitude and more positive behavior. Who doesn’t want a more joyful, well-behaved child?
If you’re still unsure whether chiropractic care can help your child, talk to your chiropractor about your child’s issues. They will explain treatment options as well as methods they might use and answer any questions or concerns you have. You’ll also get a sense of how many visits it might take before your child starts to feel better. The following website (icpa4kids.org) is also a tremendous resource for parents seeking chiropractic care for their children. If you’re enjoying the benefits of chiropractic care, the chances are your child can, too.
