Chiropractic and posture correction. How does it work? Well, let’s first talk about what happens to the body when the posture begins to shift. So generally speaking, we should have a nice line between our earlobe here and the first one third of our shoulder. This tells us that we have a nice healthy curve through our cervical spine here, through our neck, and that it is able to absorb shock. Now, when posture begins to get disturbed and this could be from computer work, sitting for too long, looking down at our cell phones leads to something that we call forward head posture. And today’s term more commonly called text neck. So the head has now gone forward greater than a third of my anterior shoulder here. And what this does is it flattens our cervical curve in which case our curve is not able to absorb shock. So let me demonstrate. Here. I have my spine model. And this is the base of the skull here at the top. And we have seven cervical vertebrae that connect to our mid-back and our lower back. Each of them has a specific curve. The neck has a cervical lordosis. The mid-back has a thoracic kyphosis. And the lower back here has a lumbar lordosis. Now the further the head goes forward, let’s use the cervical curve as an example. This curve begins to flatten away. Now when it does this, this decreases nourishment to our discs, in which case it causes something that we call in chiropractic world called accelerated aging.
This is called again arthritic change. And so lack of blood flow decreases nourishment to the disc which causes accelerated aging. And this is the reason why chiropractic care is so helpful. Because the adjustments that we perform helps to encourage the cervical curve and allows nourishment to the disc material. So we have stronger joints that are better able to absorb shock and can maintain the healthy posture of the body here, rather than continuing to see it slowly drift ahead. In which case, again, we cannot absorb shock and the nourishment to the disc is then decreased. So it’s very important that if you are seeing a disturbance in your posture or people are noticing a change in your posture, and you’re then starting to see it on the outside that it’s probably been building and changing on the inside for some time. So chiropractic adjustment helps to encourage that movement in the joint, and allows them to sit in a more comfortable position where you’re better able to withstand the forces of gravity throughout the day, and your posture and structure is stronger. So you can hold that posture for an extended period of time. I hope this was helpful. This has been chiropractic and postural correction.
